A study is looking for volunteers:
Hi everyone, my name is Yasmine Dabbs and I am a trainee clinical psychologist. As part of my 3rd year thesis I am conducting a study which is looking into self-harm websites. I wanted to research from YOUR perspective, what you think are the possible positive, neutral, or negative effects that using self-harm websites might have on individuals who self-harm. I am also interested in finding out what type of professional help people who self-harm would like to have in the future, whether this be in the form of internet counselling, internet support groups, or face-to-face / group support or therapy that is not-internet based. In order to find out this information, I need volunteers to complete my questionnaire. It will take around 10-15 minutes and is totally confidential. It has also been approved by University of Hertfordshire ethics. If you would like to take part in my study, please click on this link to the questionnaire: http://www.psy.herts.ac.uk/self/ . Many thanks for any help you can provide with this. Kind regards, Yasmine.

Hey!
Hello I 17 years old and I have been SI-ing for the past five years and I would love to be a part of your study
Thank you ever so much!
Dear S I ing,
Thank you so much for wanting to take part in my study. The link is this http://www.psy.herts.ac.uk/self/ and all you have to do is click on it and it will take you to my page. It will then ask you to click in all the consent boxes before the questionnaire is shown. After you finish you just submit it. Good luck!
The study is to finish my doctorate and it has implications to improve NHS services for people who SH in the future, because at the moment all there seems to be is help from accident & emergency room or mental health services which I feel is a big problem because most people who self-harm do not have a mental health problem and this adds to the stigma and prevents people from seeking professional help if they want to. I would like to change this if possible because I want people to see that self harm is something that everybody is capable of under certain circumstances and that there is no need to be ashamed or guilty by it. Most people just want some kindness, understanding and help with learning professional skills to help manage SH by learning new coping strategies.
My aim is to get enough data to support my idea of starting a professional online therapy group, where a staff group of trained therapists ( to include as many therapists who have self-harmed in the past and recovered) will be available 'out of hours' times on the internet and at weekends, for people who find it difficult to meet face to face.
To do this I need enough data from as many people to present in the future for funding.
Thank you for showing an interest in taking part, SI ing, your input will hopefully help to demonstrate the type of support that internet based groups have in order to change future services. I have only 2 weeks to get 50 more people to fill it in so if you know of anyone else who may be interested I would really appreciate you spreading the word.
Many thanks once agin SI ing and I wish you all the best with managing things in the future. I hope you don't mind me saying, but whatever you seek to achieve in life is always possible, no matter how hard, or rocky the journey is on the way.
Take care and good luck,
Yasmine
