Call for participants: blog research

Hello,

My name is Aimee Weet and I'm a third year Undergraduate at the University of Southampton, and I would be truly grateful for your help. I am currently doing my final research project entitled "The Presentation of Self in Self-Injury Blogs." My aims are to discover how people who both blog and self-injure present themselves through this medium, for example whether there are similarities between posts, "unwritten rules" about how much information is disclosed and how strong the sense of community can be seen though the posts.

What I am asking from you is permission to read your blogs. Once I have your permission I will copy and paste some of your posts into a programme which will help me analyse them. (Your data will be kept securely and password protected.) This should take no longer than two weeks from you giving me your consent, after I have collected as many posts that I need I will send you an email just to say that I wont be reading your blog anymore.

You will be kept completely anonymous. I will not identify this website, your username or anything that could link back to your account here. For the final write-up I am even going to alter the quotes that I use e.g. using synonyms and changing the order of words. This way you can not even be identified via a search engine.

Involvement is voluntary and you can choose to have your data removed at any time until April 20th 2013 when it will be finalised for my submission.  Read more »

Participants needed for research study in emotional regulation and coping strategies

To be eligible for this study you should be an Australian citizen aged 18-25 and willing to answer an online questionnaire related to how you cope with stress, how you regulate your emotions, and how you relate to other people (NB: this study includes questions about non-suicidal self-injury behaviour, and welcomes both those who do and do not engage in this behaviour equally). The aim of this research is to find out how you cope with stress, interact with other people and to look at how this relates to your psychological well being.

The study will take no more than 35-40mins to complete, and can be completed in your own time. Benefits of participation: this study will provide insight into how people cope and regulate their emotional state on the whole, and help us to understand why some people do this better than others, and potentially identify ways to help those with poor coping skills. This study is being conducted by Ruth Tatnell as part of a PhD at Monash University, under the supervision of Dr Penelope Hasking.
