Some people don't completely understand what addiction is or how it works. I have recently come to gripths that I have an addiction myself. Not only is addiction confusing for people, but self injury addiction is more then confusing. I'd like to clear up the confusion for those who are reading this and are confused. Maybe you can have more insight into it and accept yourself that you have an addiction or know of others who have and addiction. Well here we go.
Think about your favorite thing to do in the world.
- Is it bike riding?
- Swimming?
- Reading books?
- Drawing?
It can be anything, any little thing in your life that makes you extremely happy, the one thing you love to do all the time when ever you can. That's some what as to how it's like for a cutter. It may seem very messed up or crazy, but it brings the same happiness as say riding a bike. You feel the rush from the speed, the wind in your hair, the sweat dripping down your face, the pulling of your hamstrings as you pedal harder. It's just like cutting, the way the the razor bites into your skin, the splitting of your flesh, the seeing of the blood over flow in the swell of the cut, watching it drip down your arm, spilling over your skin onto the floor. We get the rush and pleasure that you get from doing the one thing that makes you happy. Addiction is just a more harsh word for doing something that makes you happy and complete.
It's deemed as
- taboo
- insane
- suicidal
- unfit for society
and so many more things. Yes, it may be these things, but to us it is something different. It is the one thing that keeps us alive, keeps us going. Most cutters that do it to stay alive know how to handel a cut, know the proper areas to cut to not release to much blood, and know how to hide it so no major debacles come about in the future. We are human just like everyone else. Humans that find pleasure and happiness in something deemed as wrong. It's our little mental hobby. We enjoy it, appreciate it, and live off of it. Addiction is a hard thing to over come, but we are not necessarily trying to. It's out life and it's just like yours. Our outlooks on it may be different, but it's just like your addiction to the one thing that makes you happy.
I hope that gave you a little more insight and help as to a self injurers addiction.
