Breadcrumbs:
REAL.
You’re feeling alone.
You’re feeling down,
Listen to your heartbeat pound.
You feel numb
It hurts too much.
You sit there, holding the blade
Thinking about all the mistakes you have made.
Thoughts of self-hate start to flow through your mind,
It’s nothing new, it happens all the time.
The scrutiny in your head becomes too much to bear.
All you wish for is your sister to be there.
Tears run down your all over your face,
As the blade and your leg meet at the familiar place.
Deep. Straight. Lines.
Blood is seeping to the surface faster.
You look at your leg, it’s a beautiful disaster.
The pain and feelings begin to fade,
As you stop to recognize all the marks you have made.
Still. Calm. Motionless.
When you cover your leg, it stings and burns.
Right now, though, that is none of your concern.
Hurry up, hide the evidence.
The thought of them knowing is too intense.
Quick, put on your fake smile.
They only get to see the real one every once in awhile.
Scared. Tense. Insecure.
The unsatisfactory feelings are only temporarily gone,
So this vicious cycle will go on and on.
There is one way to stop this silly game,
To end the struggle and the shame.
