Midnight Rain

Printer-friendly versionPrinter-friendly version

The soft drizzle of rain tapped on Ember's window. The stillness of her room scared her a bit. This peaceful silence would be interrupted when Sol comes home, but for now the darkness slowly engulfed her mind and the world around her. The trails of blood slowly made its way down her arms to her once white sheets. Dizziness was hovering over her, swirling and threatening to beat down on her whenever it pleased.

Ember awaited for her two friends to come home, Peris and Sol. She sat there in the dark thinking about Peris and how much her cutting herself is affecting him. the second the car lights hit the window she ran into her bathroom and washed off the blood from her arms, then wrapped them in bandages. When she walked out of the bathroom she walked down stairs and stood at the front of the stair case.

Sol entered the house first. Ember bowed her head in welcoming. then she looked up again eager to see Peris. Sol looked at her and turned away quickly. 'What does she see in him? I'm much better than my hot headed brother. ' Sol looked up at Ember again. " Emb-- " she cut him off. "Peris!" she ran over to the tall black haired man and embraced him. Peris looked down at her and pushed her away. then picked up her bandaged arm. "Again, Ember... " this was a statement not a question.

Ember looked at her arm and pulled away looking down. her long red hair shadowed her hazel eyes. " I-I'm sorry Peris.. " she held her arm close to her chest and dug her nails into the bandage. Sol watched Ember angry at his brother for making "his" woman hurt herself. Peris sighed deeply and walked over to her then embraced her. "You know I hate it when you hurt yourself like this. Do you have any idea what it does to me ?" Peris pulled away to look at her face.

Ember still looked at her and then pulled away from his embrace. "I truly am sorry," she turned and ran upstairs and then stopped in the doorway. She slowly scanned her room watching her red drapes lightly blow in the breeze. The silk drapes looked like they where dancing. Ember walked out onto her balcony and looked out at the winding field of grass and the single cherry blossom tree the stood at the left of the balcony. The sprinkle of rain slowly turned into a drizzle then the pouring rain. Drenching her all over.

Sol looked at Peris with absolute rage and pure hatred for his older brother. "Why do you make her do that to herself. You're so selfish, Peris! " Peris stood silently and motionless acting like he didn't even hear a word his younger brother said. Sol growled under his breath and clenched his fists. "Roge! look at me when I'm talking to you!" he shouted. Peris looked at Sol out of the corner of his eye and then turned back to face him. "Listen crim. I don't need this from my LITTLE brother right now okay... this is none of your concern anyways. Ember's not a part of your life like she is mine." Peris looked at his hands, there was fresh blood on his hands.

Ember ripped off the bandage and tossed on the ground. Blood ran from her like the rain from the sky. She refused to let herself heal. She wanted to bleed all her pain away. All her failure to Peris and Sol. Everything. "I'm so sorry. I'm nothing but a failure......" she whispered to herself as darkness started to creep into her mind once again. She fell...

Sol growled and walked past his brother to Ember's room. He knocked three times and then walked in. papers all over the floor, blood stained sheets.. and a thin trail of blood on the floor leading to the balcony. He walked over to the half opened door. "Ember.. are y--" he stood there in shock and Ember's small, frail body lay motionless on the ground in a pool of blood. "Peris!" Sol screamed and ran over to her. Sol picked her up and was covered in her blood in a few seconds.

Peris heard his brother scream but didn't move. He opened his hand again and looked at the knife in his hand. "Now... I can't be blamed for her hurting herself anymore.." he dropped the knife and walked out side to the car and sped off into the rain.

Sol moved his hand to his lower back and felt an deep knife wound. Then he thought to himself. 'The trail of blood.. ' Sol heard the car take off and the rain started to pour down even harder. "It all makes sense now... he wanted to make her stop... so he did..." Sol kissed her cheek and laid her down blood formed into a pool again around her. Sol had lost everything... his brother and his best friend. He was alone.. Sol took out the pocket knife he had in his pocket and sliced deep into his wrists. He kneeled next to Ember and held her hand. The darkness was swirling around in his mind. and then he fell into the deep sleep of forever... the worst kind of sleep yet the most peaceful... death.

Peris sped down the road going down the road twice the speed limit. The road was wet and slick. They went to make a turn and he saw a glimpse of Ember in his front window. His eyes widened and he spun his wheel. The car went out of control and hit a tree. Glass shattered piercing inside his body and his face blood poured from him like water. his unheard scream rang outside. only the trees heard him die slowly and painfully.
