Breadcrumbs:
I'm curious the age range with this SI...I'm thinking it's wide spread. ?
Most people seem to agree that the biggest group of self-injurers are in their teens and twenties but there are a fair amount of self-injurers who are are younger or older. I've heard of quite a few people saying they began self-injuring as children, often related to abuse or stress at home/school or some other form of trauma.
From what I've read in the past the big numbers go down by the time the general self-injury population reaches their thirties. However, there are people who self-injure beyond that and I've spoken with self-injurers in their fifties.

I could be stuck with this
1 year () (Permalink)I could be stuck with this 'til I'm fifty?! Jesus! I'm not even fifteen... Not 'til Wednesday, anyway.
Until recently, I didn't know that stuff like this could last a lifetime. That people could grow up, and go through school, form relationships, get jobs, have lives -- all while this is going on. They just have to grin and bear it? Everyone I've known personally that self-harms stopped after less than a year/ This marks my thirteenth month as a self-mutilator, and I don't see the end coming anytime soon. I started just before I turned fourteen, and I'll be fifteen in four days. The youngest self-injurer I've known was twelve, and the oldest one I've known was sixteen. Not a very broad range there, but through the internet I've heard of cutters as young as nine, and here you mentioned people in their fifties? What a tragic existence.
