I can only wait for the final amnesia, the one that can erase an entire life.
I have taken the bones out of my body
and carved temples from them
look under my nails
there is holy text in there
I do not know what it says
but some hours are spent
doing nothing but staring at the tips of my fingers
And so I am feeling numb. It’s a curious feeling, and I get it all the time. My attention to the world around me disappears, and something starts to hum inside my head. Far off, voices try to bump up against me, but I repel them. My ears fill up with water and I focus on the humming in my head.
My name is Gabrielle and I am twenty-eight years old. I began to self-injure at age fifteen -- so nearly thirteen years minus a two year period. This website is one about self-injury (self-harm), made to let self-injurers know that they are not alone and to help their friends and family learn more about self-injury and how it affects their loved one.
