I'm in therapy now for 4-5 years, and before that I was hospitalized in a psych ward because I became a real danger to myself. So, yes, SI was the reason, although I was also suffering from major depression.

I have been hospitalized five times for my SI and suicidal thoughts/attempts. twice in 2008 and three times in 2009.
