Smoking and drinking don't always do harm. I think it's a mistake to try to compare one to another. Besides, there's laws limiting both in various situations. It's socially unacceptable because it's a poor coping skill that doesn't do anything for you socially the way drinking does (and alcoholics get a pretty bad rep anyway) and wasn't an ingrained part of society that started dying out when cancer and emphysema came to light. At least blades aren't taxed to all fuck.
