Do You Know Anybody Else Who Self-Injures? Did They Have Any Influence On Your Behavior?

Kinda

Yes, I know the 'fake' ones, and the real ones. I started at an early age, so I think I had more influence on them they they did on me. I didnt tell people about it until this year (just close friends) because I had gotten suspended for cutting. It was terrible. I had to take my clothes off and they had to count and document every cut. I remember the nurse saying "She's done this before, I see scars. There's too many for me to count." A lot of kids my age cut, for attention or to look 'emo'/cool. I hate that word. Its so stereotypical. Like, there was thi girl wo walked around with new cuts showing on her arms. Another tlalking in the bathroom proudly rolled up her sleeve and said,'look what I did!" I am defintely not proud of what I did. As a quiet and smart student, no one would know that it's me. They know there's something wrong with me, but they don't know what-I don't plan for them to know, either.

In short, Yes.

I know many people who SI.

Aliza, Tiffany, Brandon, Travis, Amber, and Jeannie, are just a few.

In all honesty, I don't think they had any influence on me (as I was SI before I met Tiffany, Jeannie, Aliza, and Brandon) but that I had the influence on Travis and Aliza. Aliza has been my best friend since we were 11. I'd already been SI for about three years and Aliza was the first to know about it. Shortly after was when she began to cut herself with scissors for attention, yes, I believe that showing it to everyone you know and smiling proudly when you do it means you're doing it for attention. She has recently stopped (SI stopped being cool). Read more »

Yes

yes i do know others that SI. my best friend self-injured from the ages of 10-15. When we were in 6th grade she told me that she cuts herself off and on. I wondered why she liked it so much so one day i tried it when i was 11 and i've been hooked ever since. My girlfriend also is a recovering self injurer. In August 2009 i was hospitalized because i tried to commit suicide. In inpatient as well as outpatient i met quite a few cutters.

I know about some friends who cut themselves but in the past. But I was the one who had Influence on them. I kinda felt bad about that, and it was stupid, they didn't need to take that from me, why didn't they take my good stuff??? But as I know, they don't do it anymore.

Right now, I don't know of someone.

I was 12 when I started cutting. Before then I really hadn't heard of anyone hurting themselves on purpose. Then I found out my friend (no longer friends with her) was cutting. She's a year older than me. My mom talked to me about it to see what I thought and stuff. At the time I thought it was kind of dumb. I didn't understand why people would do that kind of thing. Soon after I got curious and I tried it. I've been cutting since.
