I hurt/cut myself for nearly nine years, from age fifteen to age twenty-four. Last time was around August of last year. Currently struggling. There were no real plans of stopping, it just doesn’t fit with my current goals (going to graduate university this month, am taking a class, want to start working). It’s tempting, though, because of current events in my life.

I live with my family, so i cant cut a lot.
How can you do it so that i dont get infected
and what should i do it with.
ive tried razors, knives, paper edges when i was on “Cut watch” scissors and even burned my skin away with erasers.
I never know if i cut to deep.
i dont wanna die.

do not cut yourself. my friend does because her life is messed up and there is nothing i can do to help her. its the worst feeling ever when you don’t know what she is diong when ur not with her. every day i think about it and it is making me depresed as well. spare your friends and family and please do not.

I’m curious about what you said in one of your posts about people just thinking you’re masochistic. because i think i’m fairly masochistic and definitely submissive sexually, but my cutting definitely doesn’t give me any sexual pleasure–it’s totally different. but it worries me that maybe there is a connection. i’m not comfortable with either one. And there’s this movie, the secretary, where the girl cuts herself and then she gets in a s&m relationship and stops. i don’t know.

I don’t recall when I said that but I think that a number of people feel there is a connection between the two (especially after Secretary) when in reality self-injury can’t define what turns one on. I’ve personally never felt sexual pleasure from self-injury and have heard many others say the same thing, even if they are into things that appear superficially similar like bloodplay, etc.

Umm.. im not sure who this is :/ but i need some ways to keep from cutting myself.. :/ i quit for a good few months; but with my parents divorice, the depression is coming back. please, someone reply to this or SOMETHING. :(

I’m the admin.

If your parents do not know and you do not wish to tell them or if they’re being squabbly about the divorce instead of paying attention to how it is affecting you then it might do some good to have a supportive circle of friends or trusted adults who you can turn to when you feel like self-injuring.

For the short term there are always lists of distractions ( http://self-injury.net/information-recovery/recovery/distractions ) though how well they hold up under pressure is entirely up to you and your commitment (or lack of) to not self-injuring.
