NANA (ナナ) is a japanese manga by author (mangaka) Ai Yazawa. Published on “Cookie” japanese magazine, later published by “Shueisha”. It was made an anime version, by Madhouse Studios. The manga status is on hiatus since 2010.

NANA is the story of two girls who shared the same name: Nana Oosaki, a punk rock singer, with a past of abandonment and loneliness. She joins punk rock band “Black Stones” (aka “BLAST” where she found a family and love, but things changes when her bandmate and boyfriend Ren moves to Tokyo to play with major band “Trapnest”. She decides to stay to make her own way and move to Tokyo by herself, when she’s ready to. Nana Komatsu (aka “Hachi”) is a romantic, daydreamer, from a middle class family, she’s the middle daughter, and is very dependant on her schoolfriend Junko, and easily falls in love. Being still on highscool, her first relationship was with a married man on his thirties. She was heart-broken when it was over. She meets Junko’s childhood friend Shouji, and eventually fell in love. When Shouji moves to Tokyo for College, Nana follows him. Both Nana’s meet on the train to Tokyo (they are from different towns), and ended up sharing an aparment and becoming best friends.

The character of Miu “Myū” Shinoda appears later on the series. She is an actress, shy and very kind at heart. She uses long sleeves to cover up her arms and also wrist-bands. Miu is 27, but looks younger than she is. Eventually, she engaged romantically with a member of Nana Oosaki’s band “Black Stones” (no spoilers here!)
