    Bug (2006)

    • Agnes White (played by Ashley Judd) lives alone in a roadside middle-of-nowhere motel with only her work at a lesbian bar and lesbian best friend, RC (played by Lynn Collins) for company when she’s introduced to Peter (played by Michael Shannon).  Peter turns out to be an escaped mental patient with many paranoid delusions.

Agnes buys into Peter’s delusions to avoid returning to the lonely life she had before he showed up.  They both end up self-injuring, convinced that microscopic bugs born from egg sacks implanted in Peter’s skin and teeth are constantly attacking them.  They cut the egg sacks out, dig out bugs that have burrowed into their skin, and Peter rips out his own tooth to uncover an egg sack placed by a military dentist in a filling.  It’s a good movie for it’s subtle points and the relationship between the characters, but is filled with cliche about mental illness (including using aluminum foil to block radio transmissions) and has a brief scene of violence against women.

There’s some graphic violence, but it’s not the most extreme in film history.  It’s a good film, but these things may be too offensive for some.
