This movie doesn’t show someone self-injurying but one of the main characters has scars on her wrist from self-injury and she is in rehab for it.

Thirteen was the first time I ever heard of “cutting” and I was incredibly intrigued.  I would sometimes scratch my skin or burn my fingertips in high school, but not severely, and it wasn’t until almost 10 years later that I actually started cutting.  I felt an incredible affinity with Tracy, even though our experiences weren’t the same, her feelings of isolation and wanting to “fit in” (especially with the “bad” kids) were similar to mine.  Fortunately, I found a great group of friends in 8th grade, and most of are still friends 10 years later.  It’s now that I’m miles and miles away from them and any friends beyond acquaintances that my feelings of isolation are becoming overwhelming.  Add that to grad school and financial strains of “adulthood” and cutting has become a coping mechanism.
