      • “This group is for adolescents between 12-17 years old who have considered, attempted, engaged or compulsively cut. We will focus on using a range of techniques that are evidence based and commonly used to decrease and stop the cravings/urges and ultimately, the behavior. The group process is experiential, involving music, drama, art, and creative writing. This group will not focus on the judgement of cutting and the physical scars, but instead, promote healthy objective ways to master emotional scars and grow as a young adult. Informational series for family members/parents will be held monthly.”

      • “Hello, I am Iara Costa. As a psychologist, I work with change. Change may involve shifts in awareness, attitude, behaviour, goals, acceptance, or coping strategies that will enhance your quality of life and well-being. Many obstacles can prevent us from living a satisfying life. These could be a history of trauma, invalidating relationships, habits that no longer serve us, or environments that may hinder our psychological growth. I can help you identify obstacles to your quality of life, develop strategies to tackle them, and set goals to increase and maintain your well-being.

I have 8 years of experience in individual and group psychotherapy. I am trained in emotion-focused, cognitive-behavioural, humanistic, DBT, and mindfulness approaches. I have also trained in CBT for Insomnia. Together we will identify the method that best serves you and the issues for which you need help.
I find great beauty in the work I do. I appreciate people’s strength and resiliency while facing hardships and feel honoured that my clients trust me. I truly appreciate the opportunity to help you find power in vulnerability and opportunities for growth in moments of crisis and loss.”

“Through individual therapy I help people deal with and grow from issues such as… self-harm…”

      • “At some point, we all face emotional challenges that make coping difficult. I am a Cognitive Behavioural therapist who has treated anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship issues (couples, teen-parent, parent-child, etc.) and other client issues since 1999. I use warmth, humour and a very active and involved approach to suss out any underlying issues and teach effective skills and strategies for reducing emotional pain. I provide take home materials so that learned skills can be practised at home that are transferable into daily living to provide relief that lasts a lifetime and not just while attending sessions.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) teaches people to re-examine their thinking and apply skills based in logic to dispel hurtful thoughts and feelings. People also learn new ways of thinking as well as ways of testing out healthier beliefs to confirm them and strengthen them in our everyday experiences.

The best predictor of success in counselling is a positive connection between the counsellor and the client. For this reason, you will always be greeted with a smile, a genuine interest in your thoughts and opinions, mutual goal setting, and a non-judgemental and helpful attitude throughout your counselling experience.”
