    You Don't Have To...

    • I just wanted to say this. It's kind of been said throughout this whole forum, but I just wanted to compile everything you don't have to be/have/do to SI. Just because there's so many misconceptions about the people who SI and who SIers are.

You don't have to be depressed or have borderline personality disorder.

You don't have to cut, burn, or leave permanent marks in any way.

You don't have to have a bad family situation, been abused, or been bullied.

You don't have to SI on your arms, and you don't have to cover it up.

You don't have to be suicidal, have made a suicide attempt or have suicidal thoughts.

You don't have to have needed stitches or have been to the hospital.

You don't have to be a teenager to SI.

You don't have to have someone know about it besides you, and you don't need to have no one but you know about it.

You don't have to be "weird," "emo," or " messed up."

And you don't have to be perfect and have no relapses once you stop.

Anyone can start to SI, and anyone can stop, with a lot of hard work. It doesn't matter if you fit these stereotypes, or if you don't.

This is kind of becoming like the "Everyone's Problems Matter" thread, so I'm going to stop it here to prevent too much repetition... I hope this helped someone in some way.

      Stay strong.

It would be nice if some of the researchers doing SI surveys to discover "the cause" would start by reading this.
