[female, age 14, first SIed at age 13]

    • I went through a lot of bullying. It was never physical but the kids who did it liked to mess with my mind. In elementary school, a boy two years older than me tormented me for a year calling me ugly, fat, disgusting, etc. I was friends with his sister and on the same swim team as him so I’d see him a lot outside of school as well…Then in middle school in a private/Catholic school and things only got worse. From 6th grade-8th grade the students “bullied” me. I thought I had a couple friends, but all but one of them betrayed me and I later found out that everyone (besides that one person) either hated me or didn’t even acknowledge my existence. For example, one of my “best friends” in seventh grade told me that she wouldn’t care if I killed myself and then sat there and laughed in my face while I tried not to cry. People laughed and made jokes about my self-harm scars in eighth grade. “She sits in her room with the lights off and cuts herself.” “I bet your legs are covered in scars and that’s why you always wear sweatpants.” “You’re emo and suicidal.”
Now I go to a really great high school and have met really great friends, but I still can’t shake the depression and self hatred. I get flashbacks, panic attacks, and sometimes I even have like mental breakdowns where I scream, cry, throw myself around on the floor, talk in a panicky way, and try to rip my hair out. Once during my swim practice, I had an anxiety attack while swimming laps and I forgot how to swim…
